One More Look In The Closet

Six days and counting. Today I am going to have a second look in my closet. Ha, that was just a regular sentence but did you all hear the silent question mark at the end of it? Like “am I really going to do this today, I’m not sure if that’s such a good idea”. But then again, if I wait a day or two there will be more things that has to go in the pile so I might as well face it. Because I know that even after today and after the challenge is over there will still be a bunch of stuff in my closet that has to go. I think a lot of us struggle in this area. I know people who have a lot of clothes in different sizes, like if they lose weight or gain weight. That is not the case for me. If something doesn’t fit me I have no problem letting go. But I do have some attachments to certain clothes. Like things I bought on my travels around the world. I have a closet full of stuff like that. Shoes from Morocco, dresses from Thailand, sarongs from the Maldives, pants from Mexico … the list goes on. And even though I never wear them I seem to have troubles getting rid of them. And it’s not that I love them or that they bring me joy. It’s just the fact that I bought them on a trip far away and who knows when I’m going back? I don’t even have an emotional attachment, it’s just that I can’t seem to let go. It’s emotional baggage! And then I have a hard time letting go of things that were expensive. And I also have a few items that I have this idea of when I will wear, most of it is dresses or long shirts that I see myself wearing on a beach somewhere. But when I am on that beach I never wear that dress or that shirt. So today I am going to challenge myself and really call myself out on my bullshit. Ok people, deep breath …

I did it! I have 24 items of clothing that I never wear in my pile. And it wasn’t even half as bad as I thought. Sometimes I thing we are stopping ourselves from even trying because we have this idea that it’s going to be so hard. 2 pair of jeans, 1 vest, 1 tunic, 5 long sleeves, 2 sports bras, 2 yoga tights, 3 sweat pants, 1 cargo pants, 1 jeans skirt, 1 padded bike shorts, 4 pair of socks and 1 bikini top.
